A play based on the true story of a woman from Burton, and her heroic efforts to help men from the town taken prisoner during World War One, is to be performed in the town on December 9 and 10, 2021.
The Godmother has been written by local writer, and Burton Small Business co-founder, Elaine Pritchard. It tells the story of Lily Thomas and the Burton Prisoners of War Fund that she founded.
It is going to be premiered at The Trinity, George Street, Burton-on-Trent – the former George Street United Methodist Church which has a strong historic connection with Lily.
Elaine is pictured below at the venue with Heather Gallagher (left) Principal of the StageScreen performing arts school – who will perform the play – and Steve Wardle, owner of The Trinity.
