Small businesses get a boost in helping to tell their story with new PR course

Journalist supports small businesses in telling their story with the launch of a new online course to help businesses gain media coverage.

Cheryl Morris, of Midlands PR and copywriting specialists Creative Word PR, has created a step-by-step guide to writing a press release to support small and micro businesses looking to tell their story to gain local media coverage.

Created during lockdown to specifically help businesses looking to launch a new product or announce a new business venture Press Release Writing for SMEs, covers all the basics of writing an effective press release as well as hints and tips from journalists on creating the right pitch and selling a story.

“When I set up Creative Word PR I wanted to be able to help small and micro businesses to tell their story,” says Cheryl, who is a trained journalist offering support at every stage for small businesses.  “For me, PR opportunities shouldn’t just be for larger companies and I am passionate about giving business owners the skills to tell their story to a wider audience.

“There are so many small and start-up businesses out there that have fabulous media stories but don’t have the skills or resources to get them to a wider audience. This course gives them all the skills to start on their PR journey and look at what will make a great story and how to make their business stand out.”

Split in to nine modules it takes you step by step through what you need to think about to tell your story and can be completed in your own time, giving you the worksheets and resources to revisit the details as and when you need to.

Cheryl, who trained as a journalist with local newspapers completing a Diploma in Journalism on the job, runs double award-winning independent PR firm Creative Word PR. She has been singled out by Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis and the Women in Business WOW awards for her expertise.

Cheryl trained as a journalist at the Burton Mail completing a Diploma in Journalism before going on to write for BBC online and work in a unitary authority press office.

She started Creative Word PR in 2015 to help support businesses in shouting about their successes. Clients have received coverage in everything from local to regional, trade and even national press including Marie Claire, Yahoo Style, Metro, The Sun, Families online, Woman magazine and BBC online.
