Gogglebox star to support local businesses

Education specialist and telly addict star Baasit Siddiqui has been announced as one of the inspirational guest speakers at this year’s Business Growth Conference 2019.

Part of Channel 4’s Gogglebox, Baasit, from Derby, is well-known for his role on the cult TV show where members of the public share their views on some of the week’s must-see TV.

The former secondary school teacher is hoping to inspire more businesses to learn new skills by looking at how businesses can continue to use education as a way of growing their business.

The first of eight speakers to be announced in this year’s Business Growth Conference, the event is designed to support local businesses in gaining the skills, advice and guidance to grow their business.

Run by the Burton Small Business team and sponsored by the Federation of Small Businesses, it will be at Repton School’s 400 Hall on the morning of Tuesday 22nd October.

Baasit Siddiqui runs his own successful company Siddiqui Education, which encourages children to learn and looks at how to raise aspirations among pupils. He said: “It is fantastic to be part of this year’s conference. Education is such an important part of my life and I am very passionate about its role in supporting business growth.

“My experiences with Gogglebox and teaching have played a huge part in helping me form the skills needed to run my own business. It is these life skills I help to inspire young people to realise as I believe at any age if you have the confidence to give something a go you can achieve so much.”

The Business Growth Conference 2019, now in its fourth year and attracting a growing following, is designed to provide everything a business owner would need at any stage in their development to help them get the guidance, motivation and right contacts to help them reach their goals.

The half-day event includes inspirational talks from a variety of experts on topics from how to boost sales, through to alternative marketing, and funding strategies that will make your company stand out from the crowd. There will also be guidance from successful business owners sharing their tips and advice.

In addition to the networking and speaker opportunities there will also be a variety of information stalls which businesses can explore to find out about anything from networking to finance, exporting and growth plans.

Supporting the team this year will also be Owen Conti, of IT support specialists Code 56, Karen Woolley of the Staffordshire and West Midlands branch of the Federation of Small Businesses and Mike Byrne of business support service Blue Orchid.

Talking about his decision to support this year’s event Owen Conti, of Code 56, said: “I am really excited that Baasit will be at the conference to help inspire others through his own journey.  The message of life-long learning and education being at the forefront of business growth resonates really well with me and the Code 56 team.  Working in technology things can change on a near daily basis, and keeping up with emerging techniques and market trends is vital to our mission to help other businesses get the very most from their technology.  We can’t be helpful if we’re not constantly learning and improving.”

Tickets are now available for £20, plus online booking fee, for those taking advantage of the early bird offer. More announcements on speakers are set in the coming weeks.
