Charity gala appeals for business help

Burton Amateur Swimming Club (BASC) holds its 5th annual Charity Gala on June 30 at Burton’s Meadowside Leisure Centre and is looking for support from local companies.

Last year, a family of BASC tragically lost their daughter, Holly Brown, in a road accident on a school trip. The Brown family and Footprints Orphanage have set up the Holly Brown “Learning for Life Zone” to give young children in Shimba Hills, Kenya the opportunity to live life to the full. All profits from this gala will be donated to that cause.

The gala is for nine to 12-year-olds and is aimed at giving novice swimmers the opportunity to experience a competitive gala.

Two teams from BASC, Swadlincote and Etwall will compete for the Hardwick Shield.

There are various ways in which local businesses can support this good cause – ranging from main sponsorship, through advertising in the event programme, to the donation of a raffle prize. Contact Craig Day at for more information. To date the gala has raised more than £3,000 for good causes.
