Following your dream is an essential ingredient to building a successful business.
We are delighted that one of the speakers at our small business conference has done just that and will be sharing her inspiring story with us on October 11.
Heather Gallagher is an experienced singer, actor and dancer. She has danced since the age of four and has trained extensively in performing arts for more than 20 years. She now works as a singing teacher and vocal coach in Staffordshire and Leicestershire and is also Principal of StageScreen, a Burton-based Saturday morning school that offers training for four to 18-year-olds in film, musical theatre and acting.
She has performed locally and nationally, including at The Savoy Theatre with the original London cast of Legally Blonde, as part of the BBC TV programme Tonight’s The Night with John Barrowman.
She said: “I’m really pleased to be speaking at this year’s Burton Small Business Conference and sharing my story of how I came to be self-employed and got to follow my passion: from performing as a four-year-old, being inspired by a wonderful dance teacher, immersing myself in local theatre, professional training in acting and singing, working a full time office job for 20 years and then leaving to pursue my dream career in 2017!
“Having overcome many obstacles over the years I’m hoping to inspire anyone who is procrastinating on taking that step towards doing more of what they truly love. I’ll be sharing some clips and videos of both mine and my students’ work to show what both of my businesses are about.”
Heather’s many theatre roles have included Chris in Calendar Girls; Mari Hoff in The Rise and Fall Of Little Voice; Emma Carew in Jekyll and Hyde and Miss Berta in Acorn Antiques. She has also played Prince Charming in a UK professional tour of Sleeping Beauty with Fame Factory Spotlight. She studied acting at Birmingham School of Acting, KTV Actors Studio, London, and as a member of The Actors TV Workshop, Nottingham.
As a singer, Heather performed for several years, as a solo cabaret artiste. She studied singing to ALCM level (musical theatre) under Anne Leatherland of VocAL Intuition and will soon be studying with West End voice experts Gillyanne Kayes and Jeremy Fisher as part of the Vocal Process Advanced training course.
In 2016, Heather completed a BSc Hons majoring in Psychological Studies and Mental Health. Alongside being StageScreen Principal and teaching private lessons, Heather is also looking forward to studying the effects of singing and mental health in various settings.
